NEW CANAAN — More than a week before Christmas under COVID conditions, the Exchange Club of New Canaan sold out at its annual Christmas tree sale in Kiwanis Park.
Selectman Nick Williams, a member of the Exchange Club, announced the sellout during the Dec. 15 meeting of the Board of Selectmen.
During Friday’s weekly Zoom gathering, hosted by the New Canaan Advertiser, Exchange Club member John Kriz also announced the sellout. While the club has previously sold out of the trees, wreaths, garland and other decorations, it’s rare for all the merchandise to be gone this long before Christmas. Often, Kriz said, a handful of trees remain Christmas Eve, with a box nearby for whatever donation the person choosing them feels appropriate.
Exchange Club members estimated the sale raised more than six figures for nonprofits supported by the organization, which focuses on the prevention of child abuse.
